Luigi Bencomo
Education Assistant
Though originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, Luigi graduated from Dalhart High School in Dalhart, TX. After high school, he studied trumpet at Amarillo College before deciding to change his emphasis to horn at West Texas A&M University. Studying with Dr. Guglielmo Manfredi and Dr. BJ Brooks, Luigi received a bachelor’s degree in music education and another in composition from WT in the Spring of 2020. After graduation, he continued his education at WT, earning a master’s degree in horn performance in the Spring of 2022.
While at WT, Luigi served as treasurer and president of the Alpha Psi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, the Alpha Nu Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, and the WTAMU Marching Band for several years, and a graduate assistant of the band programs. In the Fall of 2021, Luigi was inducted into the Xi Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma as an honorary member. Luigi was also inducted into WT’s chapter of Phi Kappa Lambda during his time as an undergraduate.
Currently, Luigi serves the Amarillo Symphony as the Education Assistant, aiding Education & Education Programs Director, Irma-Esther Borup, with the Symphony’s education programs. In addition, he teaches private lessons in horn and, on occasion, teaches in Canyon and Amarillo.
In his free time, Luigi likes to spend his time composing, playing horn, and playing video games with his wife, Naomi.
