Russ Teweleit
Amarillo Youth Symphony Conductor
Dr. Russ Teweleit is the coordinator of music education at West Texas A&M University. In addition to his music education duties, Teweleit serves at the conductor of the WTAMU Concert Band and director of the Buffalo Marching Band. Prior to his appointment at WTAMU in 1999, Teweleit served as the Associate Director of Bands (1991-1996) and then Director of Bands (1996-1999) at Canyon High School. During his tenure with the Canyon band program, Teweleit's bands consistently received superior ratings at contests and festivals, and his bands earned opportunities to compete in the Texas State Marching Contest and 4A Honor Band competition. He is active as a consultant, adjudicator, and clinician for marching band, concert band, jazz band, and instrumental pedagogy. A member of the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association, Teweleit holds a bachelor of music education and a master of music (conducting) degree from West Texas A&M University and a Ph. D. (conducting emphasis) from the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife Tina have two children: Lindsay and Matthew.
